Background: What can you get for 1 EUR? After a successful TV spot using the concept of “What can you get for just 1 EUR?”, McDonalds wanted to expand on the idea and came to us for help. The idea was to take crowdsourcing further than ever before and use the creativity in the community to develop new spots and ideas. Solution: Show them how to do it The biggest problem with crowdsourcing is that although the creativity is there, the skills and knowledge can be missing. The public might have the ideas, but they sometimes need to know how to make it work. To solve this problem we designed and developed a set of tools and video tutorials to show people how to make a short spot, all guided by the well-known actor and director Micky Kren. Once the users made a film and uploaded it, it was voted for and the winner got their spot on national TV as well as a cash prize. Results: More interaction than anyone could have expected We knew the idea was good and had potential, but that we would end up with more than 2000 videos and almost 200.000 unique visitors to the website in three months was beyond even our imagination. The campaign led to a fantastic and positive exposure for McDonalds and the videos are still being watched on YouTube.
